Chapter 4
Hide and save.
I could hear the silence eroding up the walls, capturing everything within its nothingness. The only sound that filled the room was the deep and constant humming of a generator; I could almost hear the electricity dance in the box and fill the room with their tiny steps. Whilst I imagined this small escapade, a giggle escaped my lips. It cut the eerie quiet like an arrow piercing the air.
Rapidly, the feeling of entrapment overwhelmed me, the small laugh carried through the thick darkness echoing off any object, I felt like I was being watched. The silent lost in the pure black of the room.
The ropes that held me tight to a wooden chair felt like an impenetrable cage of restriction. My mind began weaving blood thirsty torture scenes in my head. I shivered with pure fear. I slowed my breathing hoping to calm myself, I stared into the dark and waited while the silence to creep back in.
Where was he? Arthur was supposedly meant to find me and save me, why did I always agree to play this stupid game? I presume that it was the thrill of feeling like I was on an adventure and awaiting my hero. The game was an advanced game of hide and seek, my brother Jamie would hide me and Arthur would seek me; or as I liked to put it save me. The thought of Arthur running like a thief in the night to save me brang on a daydream of him and me adventuring through a promised land seeking treasure, and him always saving me when I was in trouble. I sat in awe.
“Aislinn! Ash?” the recognition hit me, he had found me. Yes!
“Art? Is that you? Please say it is” I knew it was him he was the only person who ever called me Ash, as I called him Art.
“Of course it’s me, I’m the hero remember, who always finds you and always saves you” I could hear the smile forming n his lips and the slight roll of his electric blue eyes.
“Well hurry, I’m getting pretty freaked sitting tied up in the dark!” I raised my voice.
“Jamie tied you up this time? Man, he is getting more and more serious with this game” slight surprise filled his voice as he cut my ropes with a pocket knife.
After freeing me Arthur lead me outside I dropped to the ground staring at the sun whilst pulling out clumps of grass, “Freedom!” I yelled exaggerating.
“One day I will ask Jamie to hide me, and you, Ash will try to find me. Then you can tell me you would rather seek than hide” his voice became serious, his eyes however still remained a warm blue flame.
Ok now some words you have used out of context! For instance: "silence eroding up the walls" eroding means wearing away, so this usage does not make sense. However the rest of the paragraph is awesome and your use of language is both imaginative as well as atmospheric!
Now I am not sure about: "brang on a daydream " as perhaps it is pure American in usage, but in the UK we would say "brought on a daydream……".
The only other criticism is:"Arthur lead me ", should be Arthur led me.
Otherwise keep it up, ignore the other person who said "It is too descriptive……." as if dumbing everything down is a good thing, trust me: it isn’t, it is refreshing to see someone having a go!

No. The $200 is a bad joke — it assumes winning cheap bids on eBay and getting used batteries from forklift companies for free. Even if you could do it, the process would be terribly time consuming and you’d have an embarrassing pile of junk.

ok i do not want to have to pay bills. (yea, i know a lot of people don’t want to but my reason isn’t just to be free)
i want to stay in a trailer home(not an rv or camper) and have it hooked to a well and septic for water and waste. i was also thinking of hooking it to a generator for electricity.
i was also wondering if i could have an rv satellite connected for tv. also if i have a well how does that work like would i have an electric bill so it would pump or is there any kind of pump i could buy that would pump it without me having to pay a bill.
also as far as why i don’t want to pay bills is because my parents all ready own an acre of land that they have given to me and i have a job that pays minimum wage. i would like to be able to save most of my paychecks until i have enough money to be able to have a modular home built.
my parents own more than an acre(20 acres) however i have only asked for an acre i am sure though that they will allow me more if i ask. and the generators i thought they ran off batteries not fuel. and i have looked into getting the well and septic installed. i can get both for only $15,000 – $20,000. also the land is up on the mountain in the boonies of the country. no one is around to complain and there really wouldn’t be a reason to complain because when you pass by it would just look like a trailer house. also why would i need building permits? i guess i could get them just in case though.
There may be several zoning issues you would need to get past with the septic tank on only one acre you would need to go to your local municipality to find out. As far as no electricity the amish do it but they use a hand pump and outhouse for a bathroom, I think the well pump will need some kind of power to pump the water, maybe a windmill for power ?

I have installed a steam shower in my bathroom and now my electric inspector will not approve it because the whole unit is not UL approved. The steam generator is CE approved and the motor is UL approved, but he wants the whole thing approved. I have consulted a company out of NC that charges $3500 per visit but that is more than the unit cost me. Would it be better worth my money to purchase another unit that is already Ul approved and have it installed. I think the seller should replace it for free since he is selling an item that is not approved in the US. I live in Tampa and would appreciate it if anyone knows anyone who can approve my shower unit or how long it takes to get something like this done. Thanks
Try UL’s competitor ETL (Edison Testing Lab). A company called Intertek handles ETL listings all over the world. ETL is tested to UL standards and therefore must be recognized by your inspector. Typical field inspections do cost a few thousands though, but they are cheaper than UL. Many companies are switching to ETL.
It is ridiculous these days, but it’s impossible to fight. CE is just as good as UL, but it’s a money thing. You might be better off getting a UL listed steam generator.
a have a family that lives behind me and there power got shut off about 6 weeks ago they came and used my Generator for 2-3 weeks and i took it back. they are on welfare, food stamps the whole deal and hud is paying there rent for them and now since the power is off they wont pay there rent anymore (say its a violation the landlord should pay there electric bill which is $700 he has gave them $300 in front of me so they could buy gas for the Generator ) the dad is not supposed to be there and he told me that her welfare check was stole but him and his two boys all had on brand new jordan sneakers. they have until next week to get the power back on or they are evicted by hud. they want to go to the city council meeting and want the taxpayers to pay there light bill but none of them work they all to lazy and will tell you to your face thats why they dont work they say why work when the govt will pay you so why should us taxpayers pay someones bills that don’t even pay taxes or want to help them self. now im don’t racist but they are black and that’s why i think hud didn’t throw them out when they came back there and found her boyfriend ( because they cant Married or she would lose her welfare
so the question is should they get help because me and my family have said why should somebody that refuses to work get there bills paid for free while we go to work and still have a rough time making ends meet but if the city council pays there light bill im am going to protest by painting a sign in our yard pointing to there house saying you pay there bills to every one that drives up and down the road
Your neighbors situation is certainly cause for frustration. However, there’s so much more to their story than you can possibly know. Much of it may be rooted in ignorance, self-defeat, poverty or other causes. You aren’t due an explanation nor do you need to be involved. For your own peace of mind, distance yourself the details. What’s going on in their landlord-tenant relationship, with their utility bills, their marital status as well as any government assistance they get is not your business directly. Be neighborly, help if you are so inclined and able, pray for them and be an example to them. If the adults are a lost cause, perhaps some child over there will be inspired by your example. Everytime you are inclined to speak or act out against their situation, refocus your energy on your own family. Be blessed.
Electric Heating and wiring in the Basement (unfinished) and Garage (finished & attached.) (I live in Mass. & want to keep up with code)
I would like to add some outlets in the Basement, Garage and an outlet for a small wall heater in the basement. There are currently no free plugs in the basement (there was only one to start with.) For the heater I need a 120 volts outlet.
And while I’m doing the wiring I would like to add a couple more outlets in the basement and in the garage. I would like to add a couple other plugs and run a couple to the garage,
As it is not finished currently, I was thinking about just using the protective tubing (I don’t know what it is call but see it in many warehouse/loft type homes) and running the wires & outlets through that, in the Basement. Would that work and be up to code?
Also, can I just follow the path of the current wires (run through the floor joists with metal guard plates) to run the wiring to the garage? Or do I need to use the tubing also for new wiring?
I would also need to hook this all up to the box can I do this or do I have to pay a handyman or Certified electrician?
How much would it cost if I paid an electrician?

And while I’m at it what would in cost to have a 220 ran out side for a generator?

Finishing a basement is always an area where people want to save money, but shouldn’t.
You need to get permits for just about ANY home improvements.
Insurance companies look for permits if you ever call for a claim.
Look in your local paper or phone book for Licensed Electricians in your area. Write down exactly what you want them to do. Get 2 or 3 quotes for the list. I’ve been a licensed electrician for 24 years.
I (and I know of others) refuse to "connect" wiring that some one else has done.
We have to spend a lot of time and money in insurance & schooling to keep our licenses up to date.
Do yourself a favor and have the work done right.
Someday down the road your house might be for sale….
I’d rather have a home inspection that finds no problems, than one that has a list of shoddy work done.

Climate Bill Backers Quit Chamber of Commerce

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the nation’s largest business trade association, has suffered the defection of five of its members, including Apple Inc. and Nike Inc., over its hard-line opposition to pending climate change legislation.
The resignations, submitted in just the past two weeks, have shined a spotlight on the deep divisions in industry over how to deal with the issue of climate change.
The chamber is leading the charge against President Obama’s effort to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere. But three utilities, along with business powerhouses Nike and Apple, support the climate legislation that passed the House in June.
Disagreements are common in large trade associations. But resignations over policy are rare, an indication of how high the stakes are in opposing a top-agenda item of a sitting president.
Apple is the latest company to publicly split with the chamber over climate policy. The maker of Macintosh computers and iPhones said Monday that it wishes the chamber would "play a constructive role in addressing the climate crisis" and finds it frustrating to be at odds with the chamber over regulating greenhouse gas emissions, according to a letter to the chamber from Catherine A. Novelli, Apple’s vice president of worldwide government affairs.
As a result of the chamber’s position, Apple said, it would resign its membership effective immediately.
In response, the chamber said its position on climate change is misunderstood, explaining that it opposes the pending legislation rather than comprehensive climate policy.
"The chamber is a consensus-driven organization and welcomes input from any company that wants to work on a comprehensive approach to reduce greenhouse gases," said Eric Wohlschlegel, a chamber spokesman. "While well continue to represent the broad majority of our membership on this goal, we recognize that there are some companies who stand to gain more than others with the current options on the table."
Three major utilities – PG&E Corp. of California, Exelon Corp. of Chicago and PNM Resources of New Mexico – said they also disagree with the chamber’s position on its call for a public hearing on the Obama administration’s assertion that there is a link between carbon dioxide and public health and welfare.
The link, if it exists, would allow the Environmental Protection Agency to regulate all carbon dioxide emitters.
The hearing would be the equivalent of a "Scopes monkey trial of the 21st century," Peter Darbee, PG&E’s chief executive, said in a blog post last month announcing the split.
"The carbon-based free lunch is over," John Rowe, Exelon’s chief executive, said last month.
Mr. Rowe said the world’s climate problem cant be fixed free of charge, but his company supports the legislation because it "will drive low-carbon investments in the most inexpensive and efficient way possible."
Exelon, the nation’s largest nuclear power generator, could earn more than $1 billion a year in profit if the pending legislation becomes law, Mr. Rowe said.
PNM Resources said it objected to calls to put "the science of climate change on trial" and would withdraw from the chamber. The utility had previously informed the chamber that it would allow its members on the chamber’s board to lapse.
The three utilities are members of the U.S. Climate Action Partnership (USCAP), a group of businesses and environmentalists that supports the pending legislation. The House-passed climate bill was based in part on proposals advocated by USCAP.
Nike also quit the chamber’s board late last month, but will retain its membership in the group. The global athletic company said it "does not believe that on the issue of climate change the chamber represents the diversity of views held by board members."
Separately, Johnson & Johnson, General Electric Co. and the San Jose Chamber of Commerce have said the chamber’s position on climate change does not reflect their corporate views, but they have not severed ties with the business group.
Pete Altman, climate campaign director for the Natural Resources Defense Council, said the actions of the companies show their frustration with what he called the chamber’s "retrograde" position on climate change regulation.
"Companies keep proving me wrong, because I think it’s hard for them to leave the chamber. It’s a big hurdle, because this is just not normally what companies do in order to express opinions," Mr. Altman said. "I have been surprised at how many companies are leaving or publicly criticizing the chamber."
He added that the departures were based on a mix of reasons. He noted that some utility companies see the chance to profit from the legislation, while manufacturers desire a climate bill that gives them certainty about the future. In the cases of Nike and Apple, he said, they have made corpor
Although Apple makes a good product, it will not suffer any ill-effects from carbon taxes except related to worsening economy. I am not surprised Jobs has bought into the hype. If he had more to lose, he might take a greater interest in actually looking at the evidence.
