This video shows the 26+5/8″ diameter 3/4″ birch plywood flywheel ring which has been attached to the bike wheel, and a spin test is performed with the stator at full height above the rotor. The flywheel has some runout that throws the wheel off balance, which of course is a negative aspect that needs to be addressed. Also, the 3+3/4 pound additional weight will cause further drag on the bearings, which are already in rough shape. Thus, I perform this test spin not knowing if these negatives can be overcome by the magnetic forces of attraction and repulsion, and whatever amount of inertial momentum that can be provided by the flywheel. Does it work? Watch and see…….

This video shows a new wheel mounted in the Pipe Dream apparatus, and with the polyurethane rotor magnet space maintainers and polycarbonate timing track base applied to the rim. Work is definitely progressing, although progress has been slowed by the time consuming nature of fully documenting every step of the construction process. The builder’s document now stands at 100 pages of photos and instructions, and more is added as each step is completed. I have also been very busy answering e-mail inquiries and requests from people wishing to replicate the Pipe Dream apparatus and join the project effort. I have also established a Pipe Dream project website, and will be talking about that, and the project in general, in my next video. Anyone wishing to join the project, or learn more about it, should contact me by e-mail at rickandlezel@hotmail.com

Thanks for watching,

Rick

…You exhibit a slight twitch when introduced to anyone with the first names of Charley, Frances, Ivan, or Jeanne.

…Your freezer never has more than $20 worth of food in it any given time.

..You’re looking at paint swatches for the plywood on your windows to accent the house color.

…You think of your hall closet/saferoom as "cozy".

…Your pool is more accurately described as "framed in" than "screened in".

…Your freezer in the garage now only has homemade ice in it.

…You no longer worry about relatives visiting during the summer months.

…You too haven’t heard back from the insurance adjuster.

…You now understand what that little "2% hurricane deductible" phrase really means in your homeowner’s policy.

…You’re putting a collage together on your driveway of roof shingles from your neighborhood.

…You were once proud of your 16" electric chain saw.

…Your street has more than 3 "NO WAKE" signs posted.

…You now own more than 5 large ice chests.

…Your parrot can now say "hammered, pounded and hunker down".

…You recognize people in line at the free ice, gas and plywood locations.

…You stop what you’re doing and clap and wave when you see a convoy of power company trucks come down your street.

…You have the personal cell phone numbers of the managers for: plywood, roofing supplies and generators at Home Depot on your speed dialer.

…You’ve spent more than $20 on "tall white kitchen bags" to make your own sand bags.

…You’re considering upgrading your chainsaw from 16" to 20".

…You know what "bar chain oil" is.

…You’re thinking of getting your wife the hardhat with the ear protector and face shield for Christmas.

…You now think the $6000 whole house generator seems like a reasonable investment.

…You look forward to discussions about the merits of "cubed, block and dry ice".

…Your therapist refers to your condition as "generator envy".

…You fight the urge to put on your winter coat and wool cap and parade around in front of your picture window, when you finally get power and your neighbor across the street with the noisy generator doesn’t….

I live in Northwest Florida. Yesterday was the 2 year anniversary of Hurricane Ivan. Can you believe there are still some people rebuilding from that? I can!

Thank goodness for those generators no matter how much noise they make.

We have several chainsaws, but not nearly as many trees as we once did. I guess we’ll spend our time helping neighbors who still have trees. We’ll even bring our own bar oil.

When the power company convoy came into our neighborhood people sat out in their front yards and watched them. They had a TANGLED mess to clean up. A tornado went through a wooded area and tied knots in the power lines.

During Ivan we didn’t sustain any damage that we needed the insurance adjuster, but Hurricane Dennis in 2005 made up for lost time. Our adjuster was out right away too. I guess we’re fortunate in that regards. We’re still working on getting things back to "normal" though.

I don’t have a parrot, but if I did, I would teach him to say "hunker down". My mother has a phrase "WE’RE GONNA DIE!" that she says with sarcasm about the time the panic hits the town drama queens… I would teach the parrot to say that too. I just can’t do it justice here.

Ya just gotta love this place!

This should be America’s #1 priority. "Free" electricity to all US citizens. A federal initiative to generate the US power needs from wind, solar, ocean currents and other alternative energy sources. By setting the goal, we can easily achieve that goal as a nation. Just as we set the goal to land on the moon… With free electricity, cars can be plugged in, instead of fueled. This initiative saves American’s a significant amount of money, it protects us from relying on foreign oil, it helps planet earth, it provides millions of new jobs. We have plenty of desert for solar panels and we are surrounded by ocean currents and tradewinds that can easily produce all the electricity we need. Now we just need a leader with a little common sense and some guts!
Of course this is not an easy task and there were plenty of people who said:

1) man will never land on the moon
2) a country will never have a national roadway sytem that connects the east and west coasts
3) TV will never catch on
4) the great wall of china can not be built
5) pyramids cant be built
6) man cant fly
and many more examples….

All great accomplishments seem insurmountable at the conception. But if the human mind can pictured it, then it is possible. I don’t know exactly how (no one does), but I am sure that a combination of nuclear, wind, solar, wave, fuel cell and other technologies can make it happen. At this point it is a matter of setting the national goal, allocating resources and not making excuses why it cant be done.

Not remotely practical. Solar and wind power are far, far away from being practical on a large scale. California is the leading state for both sources of energy. Some facts:

"Two thirds of America’s wind power capacity is located in California. The state’s 1817 MW of wind farms, nominally 3.4% of in-state generating capacity, are available only when the wind blows at optimum speeds. Thus they produce only 1.2% of the electricity consumed in the state." (See reference source below.) Even with this very limited use of wind power, environmentalists are already complaining about how the windmills scar the landscape, kill birds, generate EMFs, etc. Significant expansion of wind power, enough to make a real dent in our demand, would be nearly impossible, especially in that short time frame.

As for solar, another quote from the listed source below is instructive: "All of America’s central station solar electricity is generated in California. At maximum capacity, California’s nine solar stations-with a combined total of 11 square miles of mirrors focused on steam drums that drive steam turbines-can generate 413 MW of electricity, 0.8% of the state’s capacity. Because the sun sets at night and is sometimes attenuated by clouds, these plants produce only 0.3% of California’s electricity. "

This very limited solar energy production is the product of enormous and expensive subsidies. The real cost of this power, therefore, is many times greater than the cost of fossil-fuel generated electricity. Again, we should do some math here. In order to generate enough electricity for the state of California alone, we would need about 4,000 square miles of solar mirrors/panels, plus specialized turbines and generators. We have neither the room nor the money to make this happen. And imagine the firestorm of protest if we were to create such a monstrocity in the middle of the state. Other states are not so sunny, and would require an even greater proportion of solar panels in order to meet demand for electricity.

The irony is that we have an alternative source of energy that is both clean and safe: nuclear power. However, we have not constructed a new nuclear power plant since the 70s. Fears raised about potential for accidents are way overblown. For example, Chernobyl could never happen here for dozens of reasons, but mostly because: (1) the Soviet design was seriously flawed and no one in the west would ever have considered constructing a similarly designed plant; and (2) the Soviet system produced substandard equipment and materials, so, for instance, they would run out of concrete in the middle of a pour and just pick up where they left off when they got more…horribly unsafe practice. We don’t have these problems in the U.S. Waste is a problem, but certainly not insurmountable. It’s time to consider seriously a return to nuclear power.

Some time ago a man named Nicholae Tesla realized that the Earth is a huge electrical generator. He said that if humanity could create a copper cable long enough to circumnavigate the earth from South pole to North pole and back, we could use the power generated naturally by the earth’s magnetic field and have enough power to light a billion New York-sized cities. I assure you this is true. So my question is really this: Why do you think we haven’t we decided to use the most efficient form of renewable energy? At this point in history, we have the technology and engineering ability to achieve it, so what’s the hold up?
For those of you questioning whether it’s even possible. It is. I can be done from orbit at this point in time and spinning motion necessary is already achieved by the flow of molten iron under the earth’s crust that generates the field in the first place. I do acknowledge that it would require more than one loop, but still is more feasible than a manned mission to Mars. Just not as sexy.

NASA did an experiment in space that showed that this idea might work. They strung a wire out from the shuttle and it developed a strong voltage just from passing through the earth’s field. But then it burned out.

My fear is that if we actually did build an earth generator as described it would affect the rotation of the earth. You can’t get something for nothing. You have to put mechanical energy into a generator to get electrical energy out of it. In this case the mechanical energy comes from the rotation of the earth. The earth is just coasting so extracting energy to make electricity would cause the rotation to slow down. Do we really want that?

I’m up for suggestions! I made a list of the music that is on my computer so you can get an idea of what I listen to. As you can tell, my music taste varies. However, I despise most of the popular bands (okay, ALL) bands of today. Also, keep in mind that I have many more artists on CD that isn’t on my computer so they are not listed….so, try to be as obscure as possible. Thank you!

Some albums:

"The Way Of The Vaselines" by The Vaselines (quirky Scottish group, now defunct, influential on Nirvana)

"L’Amour Fou" by Kanda Bongo Man (soukous music from Zaire – brilliant guitar playing and very uplifting)

"Barbed Wire Kisses" by the Jesus & Mary Chain (it’s a best-of, but as you don’t have any, it’s a start : )

"45s And Under" by Squeeze (great melodic pop from a songwriting duo who were heralded as the new Lennon-McCartney. Not quite, but worth checking out)

"Beers, Steers + Queers" by Revolting Cocks (the weirder side of industrial)

"Architecture & Morality" by Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (elegant early electronica from 1981)

that it costs 40,000 dollars a year to house a criminal?Geez for 40,000 a piece I would take a few criminals into my house.I already have bars on the windows so they would feel at home. And I don’t think we should give prisoners free room and board. They should have to run 12 hours a day on a treadmill generating electricity and if they do not want to run they can sit in a chair that is hooked up to the generator.Anyone agree?

I think there is all kinds of potential energy being wasted in prison. Just put them in hamster wheels! If not using them for energy production can we at least make them work on chain gangs again? There’s all kinds of trash on the highway.
